A Guide to Dental Implants

Dr. Savan Zala and Dr. Amit Kotecha

Dental Implants are pain-free to place, taking roughly twenty minutes to place a single implant. They can be placed with the patient awake, under local anaesthesia or under intravenous sedation (asleep).

Dental implants are versatile and future-proof being totally upgrade-able, as opposed to conventional dentistry which upon failure is useless.

The three major detrimental effects from tooth loss are bone loss,

over eruption (overgrowth of the opposing tooth) tilting of adjacent teeth into the gap and imbalanced function resulting in bite force overload on the remaining teeth. Dental Implants are the only method by which all of the above complications can be resolved.

Losing a tooth can change your appearance dramatically, it can also affect your confidence and self-esteem. Now thanks to dental implants, you can have replacement teeth that look and feel like a natural tooth. Unlike dentures, implant restorations do not shift inside your mouth as they are anchored securely into the jaw using a small titanium post.

Did you know that dental implants are the only way to replace missing teeth & keep the bone within your jaw healthy? When a tooth is lost, there are three consequences:

  • Bone loss on the ridge where the tooth is lost, bone width & height will be lost
  • Over-eruption of the opposing tooth in the opposing arch
  • Tilting and drifting of teeth either side of the gap,

Dental Implants have a natural lifespan if they are “well Maintained” and check by our expert team regularly.

Types of Dental Implants

Single Tooth Replacement
Single Tooth Implants
If only one tooth is missing, a single dental implant is the gold standard method of tooth replacement. It will not damage adjacent teeth as with a bridge or denture. It will maintain the position of the remaining teeth by preventing them from moving into that space. It will preserve the bone and therefore help to maintain the gum architecture around the teeth and will allow for superior aesthetic results compared to other forms of treatment.
Multiple Teeth Replacements

Multiple Teeth Implants
If more than one tooth has been lost it is possible to have 2 or more implants adjacent to one another. It is also possible to have implants joined together with a bridge so that you do not need an individual implant per tooth.

This procedure can be much more cost-effective than individual implant replacements, and as the implants join together as a fixed bridge. This means minimal cutting of the gums and quicker healing!

Full Arch Dental Implants, Teeth in A Day
Full Arch Dental Implants
If you have lost all your teeth, we can provide dental implants to support or anchor a fixed, stable, permanent aesthetic bridge. The number of implants required to support a full arch bridge will depend on the anatomy of the jaw bone, the number of teeth required, the type of bridge required and the opposing teeth.A full arch of implants can be placed when the teeth have been missing for a long time or when the remaining teeth have failed and require removing. In the latter case, it can be arranged to have the remaining teeth removed, and the implants placed all in the same day.

Benefits of Having Dental Implants in Leicester

Dental Implants in Leicester

Implants offer firm support to natural teeth and have many benefits, including:

  • Implants will not slip or shift in your mouth. This is very important for eating and speaking normally.
  • Implants feel more natural than removable partial or conventional complete dentures because of their secure fit.
  • A single tooth implant is a stand-alone unit and does not involve treating the teeth next to it.
  • Implants help to preserve the bone after teeth are lost or removed.
  • Implants are of good value. They may seem like a more expensive option at first, but they can last a lifetime if you take good care of them.

Smile With Confidence!

Dental implants have opened the door to a lifetime of renewed comfort and self-confidence for individuals suffering the embarrassment and frustration of tooth loss. Hiding your smile will be a thing of the past.
